New Patient Intake

During this 70 minute appointment, we do a thorough intake. This conversation will identify the overall pattern and root cause of whatever ails you, and help determine which direction to proceed in. Additionally, you may receive a treatment, depending on the depth of diagnosis required. If there is a treatment on this appointment, it will be abbreviated. Treatment can consist of acupuncture, cupping, moxibustion, gua-sha, nutritional recommendations, Tuina or Shiatsu (traditional manual therapy techniques), an herbal formula and/or a series of exercises for you to do at home. You will leave this initial treatment with a treatment plan that will provide a general road-map for our work together.

Acupuncture and Traditional Manual Therapy Treatment

Treatment will continue to focus on your chief complaint. Additionally, during this hour-long appointment, you will receive a full-body treatment and acupuncture to address your whole system. A typical course of treatment involves 4-15 follow-up treatments, depending on the complexity of your situation. You will be encouraged to do exercises, eat foods that will assist your body in its healing process, and possibly take herbal medicines to support your progress between treatments

Herbal Consultation

Did you know that the majority of modern pharmaceuticals are made of chemical compounds derived from the plant and fungal kingdom? The traditional Asian pharmacopeia employs herbs that have been used as medicine for 5,000-8,000 years. Like in a New Patient Intake, this 30 minute conversation will aim to gather information about the root cause of your ailment. You will be prescribed an herbal formula that will address your main issue, as well as your underlying constitution. Herbal formulas can range from prepared tea-pills, to a powdered tea, to raw herbs which are decocted into a custom tea. Additionally, for musculoskeletal and dermatological conditions, herbs are often applied topically, in washes, lineaments and salves. Generally, herbs are taken or applied 1-3 times a day.

Community Acupuncture

Acupuncture is commonly practiced in a community setting in Asia. This is a great format for getting a taste for the medicine, or working treatments into your busy schedule. We will check in about how you are feeling that day, and how to focus your treatment. After getting settled in to a comfortable position, we determine which points to use based on your pulse, and gentle palpation of the affected areas. Quick and gentle insertion of ultra-fine needles will activate your body’s natural healing potential. Most people find these treatments very relaxing for both the body and mind.

Focused, Abbreviated Treatment

These 30 minute follow-up treatments will be focused and concise. Generally only acupuncture or manual therapy will be used. For those paying out of pocket, focused, abbreviated treatments can be a way to get regular treatments on a budget. These treatments may be in a community setting.

Cost of Treatment:

I bill most health insurance companies as an In-Network Provider. Some of these companies include Regence Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Open Access, Pacific Source, Optum, United, HealthNet, CareOregon, TriWest and Oregon Health Plan (OHP/ Medicare). I can bill many other companies as an Out-of-Network Provider. Some Insurance companies require prior-authorization from your Primary Care Physician.

For patients paying for treatment at the time of service, I offer treatment at a reduced cost (35% off full price). If you are uninsured, underinsured, or cost prohibits you from getting the treatment you need, please let me know and we will work out a treatment plan you can afford. If you would like for me to check to see if your insurance plan will cover Acupuncture, please send me a message below, and give me 5 business days to get back to you.
